November is National Adoption Month! Adoption is a beautiful and life-changing experience that can bring joy to children and parents alike. We were able to sit down with one of our amazing employees, Brianne Lee.
Brianne has had the unique experience of adopting a child. Brianne officially adopted her son, Ash, in 2019, but she was making an impact far before that. Brianne has shown over time her pure heart and endless selflessness, especially in regards to supporting and protecting children.
We find Brianne’s story inspiring, and we relish in the opportunity to share it with you!
Q: How has adoption changed your life?
A: Adopting a child is one of the best ways to infuse life and love into your heart. Knowing that I have the opportunity to give Ash things he never had before in his life has inspired me to be a better parent and human. It’s been a challenge that no one could prepare me for, but that I am so grateful to face.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories with Ash?
A: I got Ash a teddy bear the first time he got sick, and I told him that it would help him get better. He still has Super Teddy today. Definitely one of my better mom hacks! One of his favorite memories is getting our first puppy.
Q: How could adoption potentially help other people?
A: I believe that the adoption didn’t just positively impact my life, but also his biological mother’s life. When I adopted him, she was in a dark place in her life. She didn’t want to let her kids down. No mother wants that. I can’t predict the future, but I’m hopeful that in 10 years, every person who was impacted by my decision to adopt Ash will be in a better place for it. Unfortunately, it takes time to achieve that peaceful dynamic. And some people never get there.
Q: What part do you think the quality of your legal representation had to play in the success of your case?
A: At the time that I adopted Ash, his biological mother’s family was trying to force a very toxic hold over his life. Throwing in a legal case to the mix exacerbated the issues between our families at the beginning. Having the attorneys that I did to help me through that journey alleviated a lot of the stress that I had been dealing with. That was critical to my mental and physical health. They empowered me to set and enforce appropriate boundaries with people so that I could make sure my family could grow.
